Reason for adding “Bleed”

Do you see the difference?

This is why you want to have a bleed of ⅛” or ¼” when you prepare a file. When you cut the business card with the guillotine cutter, the back side is clean but the front side is ROUGH as you see in the image above.

Whether your artwork has graphics to the edge or not, make sure to add “bleed” on your file. If not, you are paying extra charges to the printer to add the bleed or the printer may just stretch the file 1-2% bigger to create a bleed all around it to save time. This is how printers getaway instead of going back all the way to the customer to save time especially when the customer is not a designer or design firm.
